Tower of Babble (Babel)
Tower of Babble (Babel)
Acrylic spraypaint on canvas

This painting speaks to the hubris of mankind in expecting the United Nations to be an effective global governing institution. Images of Colin Powell, Qadaffi, Ahmadenijad, and Khruschev adorned with clownish attributes are graffitied onto the General Assembly building as each presented an outlandish speech in that forum illustrating the institution as one populated by many self-serving politicians who do little to advance the global good. Christ as the graffitier enables a linkage to the biblical tale of the Tower of Babel, and apt reference as the biblical tale is grounded in mankind’s prideful belief that it can manage effectively (or dominate) the natural realm of its environment.
