The Matron is the capstone artwork for the Children of War series. Through a meditation I received a message to paint a matron for the series, one who would look out over the gallery at all of the children in the series. This woman is also a child a war, however, as she has been through at least two wars in Ethiopia in her lifetime. She is by far the largest artwork in the series - 48" x 72" - and that size was the driver of the amount of time it took to cut the stencils for the work ... 6 months.
